Celebrating Social Prescribing Day 2023

Happy National Social Prescribing Day! In honour of the day the Southport and Formby team have decided to celebrate partnership working across services in the area by nominating teams that we have worked closely with to provide great outcomes for our clients. The act of Social Prescribing can’t exist without the amazing services to refer in to so today we want to celebrate them. The hardest part for our team was picking one service per Link Worker! Carry on reading to see who the team picked.

Zoe would like to say a big thank-you to Include Include-IT Mersey at the Atkinson on Mondays and Wednesdays. “They are really supportive and understanding in helping people access or learn about accessing IT and the internet. Thank-you to the volunteers who man this service and spend time with my clients treating them all with respect and working with people in a person centred way”.

Vicky would like to nominate the Alzheimer's Society “as they always go above and beyond for clients, pick up referrals quickly and update me on what’s been done. I get fabulous feedback from clients as well”

Damian would like to nominate The MenCan mentoring project based at Brighter Living Partnership . “It has filled a big gap for younger male support and I have referred some clients into the service. Having had mental health challenges in the last few years, I was not aware of any support available for males under 50. It really resonated with me when Brighter Living Partnership were formulating the service, hence why I put my name forward as a volunteer too”

Sou would like to nominate Sefton Carers Centre . “Staff have always been very helpful. They get back to me swiftly and give me lots of information. Can you please give them a big thank you from me. “The Carers Centre also set up a monthly support group at Southport Community Centre after speaking with the Social Prescribing Team about what our clients would benefit from.

Nikki would like to nominate Parenting 2000 “Parenting 2000 have been integral to providing much needed bereavement support in the Southport and Formby area. Through a specific pot of funding via Social Prescribing, the Parenting 2000 counselling service has provided a quick and responsive service to our clients and we have had great feedback from those who have benefited. After discussions with the Social Prescribing Team they also identified a need for a bereavement support group in the area and are currently looking at setting this up which will be a real asset to the area”

Conal would like to nominate the Formby Befriending Scheme . “They are always willing to respond to requests for support and have been instrumental in establishing a very successful carers support group at the Methodist church hall every Friday afternoon. I’d be lost without them!”

Owain would like to nominate Compassion Acts . “They are a great asset for Social Prescribers. Their friendly and approachable staff contact our clients within a week and get to work promptly in taking care of a variety of challenges”
