Medical Director

Dr Abdul Zubairu is a GP partner in Southport and the Medical Director of Southport and Formby Health, a GP Federation providing services to approximately 120,000 patients across the locality. He combines frontline clinical experience with strategic leadership to support sustainable, high‑quality primary care. He has been a partner at Norwood Surgery since 2012, working four days a week, and is proud to remain a frontline clinician. As Medical Director of Southport and Formby Health, Abdul has been involved since its inception in 2016. He has played a key role in the development and delivery of innovative services, including a community cardiology service, extended access to general practice, and a range of Primary Care Network services involving multidisciplinary healthcare professionals. He has been central to fostering collaboration between general practice, community services, commissioners, and other system partners, helping to improve patient access to care closer to home while reducing pressure on GP practice teams. Alongside his leadership role, Abdul remains committed to education, coaching, and developing future clinical leaders. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, keeping fit, and following Manchester United Football Club.
